Making a decision to pursue psychiatric treatment requires courage and determination. I always praise my patients for rejecting the ongoing stigma about mental health issues by deciding to seek professional help and allowing me to use my expertise to help them on their road to recovery.

If you are new to mental health treatment and wonder what to expect, let me provide a brief introduction. Every patient is unique and benefits most from a highly individualized, holistic and integrated frame of treatment that looks at the whole person, not just their mental health needs.

An initial detailed diagnostic evaluation is necessary for the development of a comprehensive treatment plan that should include psychoeducation followed by the careful selection of the best psychotherapeutic approach for you – anywhere from psychodynamic; interpersonal; CBT; compassion-based therapy; mindfulness oriented treatment; motivational interviewing; etc. Additionally, you may or may not need to be prescribed a psychotropic medication in order to restore the neurotransmitter balance in your brain.

In my mind, the ultimate goal of treatment is not only to alleviate your psychiatric symptoms but also to learn how to lower your stress level, become more resilient in the face of adversity, and improve your interpersonal relationships so to bring back peace and joy in your life.

I underwent my psychiatric residency training at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Afterward, I spent many years in a private psychiatric practice during which time I also enjoyed supervising psychiatric residents, as a gratis attending at U of L. I developed a special interest in the treatment of Mood and Anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, Personality disorders, and also women’s mental health, especially perimenopausal issues.

During my career, I have been fortunate enough to be able to help many patients reach meaningful improvement in their lives. Through that process, I always maintained the highest professional standards and stayed up to date on our ever-evolving practice guidelines and the newest therapeutic recommendations. I have learned, however, that psychiatric treatment is, at its essence, a team work toward wellness, which requires your full participation to achieve the best possible results.

My office will always be a safe place for you to open up and address all your mental health concerns and you will never feel rushed during our sessions. I simply do not believe in 10 min med checks as a viable treatment option. Unfortunately, many patients currently experience this in our existing managed health care system.
